2023.04.01 12:17 J_storm96 [Advice] Austin to Houston then back within 20hrs

Hi
I am a first time traveller to the USA, I need to attend a concert in Houston on Friday evening (21st April 2023) at 6pm and be back in Austin before 8am on Saturday (22nd April 2023).
I looked up a few private car services with drivers but they cost ~600$ one side!! Flixbus was a cheap option but the timings don't work in my favor.
Uber is ~200$ one side which is still affordable but again I am not sure about cancellation rates and if the driver will agree to drive me 170 miles or not! Same on the way back if any Uber will accept a trip at 12 midnight or not.
I cannot drive myself so exploring other options.
Any ideas? First priority is safety then frugality!

2023.04.01 12:16 spydamark All the complaints of people driving crazy miles for low pay hoping for a big tip. Then mad for low pay. Blame your self for taking that delivery in the first place.

Every market is different first of all. Yah out here driving crazy miles hoping for a big tip and when you get nothing your mad. Why did you take the order in the first place. If your not cool with what they show you up front do not take the delivery decline that shit asap. Dont fall for DD headgames and chase that carriot only accept deliveries that are profitable end of story period. Acceptance rate does not matter. Oh ill accept this bad delivery and then they'll send me a good one lol. Dont play your self like that ever again. Why are you traveling 10 miles for 4.00 dollars make it make sense. That's just an example. I have a game plan that I stick to every time. I don't drive out past 3 miles and thats about the max for me I don't care about the price unless it's a very high dollar amount for the miles. That I'm cool that they showed me upfront with. Yes DD is trash but I only accept what's profitable for me. I multi app as well. Good luck out there every body the grind dont stop keep hustling and make your money!

2023.04.01 12:15 Scorpyata I was told i don't have mvp 6 months after i was told i have it.

20M with palpitations chest pains and often elevated heart rate nonsmoker nondrinker. Around 6 months ago i went to a doc to do some tests like stress test echo etc. and after the echo they said i had mvp, which was weird to me because i did 2 or 3 echos in 2022 before that one and they were fine. And now 6 months after that i went to another doctor and he said that i don't have nothing like that. I don't know what to believe and i don't know what to do. This last doc said that they may have made a mistake and that he may have seen it like that but there is no mvp. Could he have made a mistake? Are these docs that have said i don't have mvp not seeing it? I'm so tired of going to doctors because of my symptoms and i never get answers on why stuff is happening. I was only told i have early repolarization by 2 docs and the one that said i have mvp said he didn't see early rep on those tests so idk what to do.

2023.04.01 12:15 AutoModerator April What Editing Software should I use?

Are you looking to pick editing software? THIS IS YOUR THREAD.

TL;DR - you want DaVinci Resolve Resolve, Hitfilm Express, Olive Editor or Kdenlive.

Seriously, read This whole post!

This post solves 98% of "what software do I use" questions.

There are key steps you need to take before you reply if you want help. Especially the last sentence.

----------------

THREE THINGS YOU HAVE TO KNOW.

These three things are crucial (spoiler tag to make you read):
  1. Footage type (See below)
  2. Hardware/System specs. Just saying "HD or 4k" doesn't help
  3. Even if you don't want something "fancy", you still need to read this.
  4. IF YOU DO NOT START YOUR REPLY with the proper format, you won't get a response.
Much of this comes from our fuller Wiki page on software.
If you get to the end of this post and you need more, check there first.
For example, MOBILE EDITING SOLUTIONS are in the wiki. Nobody is an expert on all of the tools.
Trying it with your system and footage is the best way to work.
-------------------------------

1 - Footage type. Know what you're cutting.

FOOTAGE TYPE AFFECTS playback. READ THAT AGAIN. The compression type is key.
Action cam, Mobile phone, and screen recordings can be difficult to edit, due to h264/5 material (especially 1080p60 or 4k) and Variable Frame Rate issues..
AGAIN: Footage types like 1080p60, 4k (any frame rate) are going to stress your system.
When your system struggles, the way that the professional industry has handled this for decades is to use Proxies. Proxies are a copy of your media in a lower resolution and possibly a "friendlier" codec.
A proxy workflow more than any other feature, is what makes editing high frame rate, 4k oand h264/5 footage possible. It is important to know if your software has this capability.
See our wiki about* Variable Frame Rate* Why h264/5 is hard* Proxy editing
-------

2- Key Hardware suggestions:

The suggested hardware minimums for the "average" user
Can other hardware work? Certainly - but may not necessarily provide a great experience.
GPUS do not help with the codec/playback of media but do help with visual effects.
We have a dedicated hardware thread monthly. Hardware questions belong there.
-------------

3- I Just need something simple. I don't need all those effects.

Sadly, having super easy-to-use software means engineering teams*.*
iMovie came with your Mac and is by far the easiest-to-use editor for either platform.
There isn't a lightweight, easy-to-use free/inexpensive editor that we'd recommend for Windows the way we recommend iMovie. We wish iMovie was available for windows. The closest we've seen on windows is Olive editor (open source)
----

Okay, so what do you suggest?

Editing

Two tools that charge but have very usable free versions.

I want Easy

Know that any of these tools are limited - many "advanced" features aren't ever going to be available here and there is no growth to a professional market.

I want the tools that professionals use:

In alphabetical order:
These all have costs, some of them are subscription only. If you're thinking you want to move in the future to doing this professionally, we'd suggest Premiere for most people.

Open Source tools

Open source tools. We think these are great - but there is no UI team/support
We mention other tools in the wiki, but generally, nobody has bought/tested the tools at \$100 or less. And we're not suggesting the "bigger" tools but happen to discuss them. 99% of people who come here are looking to play for zero dollars.)

Effects

Web Sites worth noting

Compression

Shutter Encoder is a free, cross-platform compression tool. It's a GUI front end to FFMPEG (a command-line utility.) It does more than handbrake, our prior favorite.
Lossless cut is an excellent tool to "snip" out a section of what you downloaded. Shutter does this too, but Lossless is a little easier.

Mobile

-------

Nov 2022.

Clipchamp. Capcut.
Professional tools aren't suggested - because invariably, someone comes into this thread asking why we don't suggest a $600/yr subscription for hobby editors.
------

Feb 2023

Yes, we're watching the space about ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion and more. But there isn't an auto editor, not based on text description - not yet. And certainly not for free.
If you have tools you think are AI editorial tools, post them here.
This exists to answer the question, "What AI tool will edit for me."
-------

If you've read all of that, start your post/reply:

"I read the above and have a more nuanced question:"

And copy (fill out) the following information as needed:
My system
My media
---
(And just because some people get confused by this each month:
This thread isn't for you to argue what is best - it's to help others understand what their software needs are to have a good editorial experience.
They ask questions (based on the format in the thread), and we give answers.)
Seriously, if you don't start your reply with "I read the above and have a more nuanced question", likely the response will be slower.

2023.04.01 12:07 mxyaevmu im turning 18 and i dread it, my teenage years feel unfulfilled

My 18th birthday is coming up in a week and I dread it. My family has already funded to make a whole big celebration for it, inviting alot of people more than I think id need to. I wanted to keep the celebration simple and humble but they insist to do so much for me since this is only once in a lifetime cause it's a cultural tradition in my country for someone's 18th birthday to be a big deal to celebrate for. I know Im supposed to be happy about it but this has only felt overwhelming to me and ive only been crying thinking about it cause I dont feel done with my younger years all and I'm not ready to be 18 with all the expectations that age has. How do I not feel too bad about this?
I live in an overprotective, strict asian family that ruined my chances of learning to be independent and grasp responsibilities needed for adulthood at all, which made me so lost in life. Im accepting that I'll have responsbilities to deal with but the way they raised me is going to make me feel incapable of doing so. I never experienced any abuse or severe trauma from them, theyre still a healthy loving family to me but they still have their fair share of flaws that take a toll on me sometimes, the average parents having high pressuring expectations, constantly making the decisions for me and always meddling, underestimating and babying me at this age has made me build up walls around myself.
My household is family oriented which discourages me from fully expressing myself, and Im expected to spend my life prioritizing them, it only makes me uncertain that I can pursue the passions, goals and the changes I want for myself in the future. I hate how the whole family oriented ideal got to me because a part of me still wants to be dependent on them because of my fear of abandonment. Im not saying I no longer care for my family cause I still do regardless. I lost my teenage years to the pandemic, my mental health and my social anxiety which stunted my mental age and made me miss out on alot of opportunities which I regret. Seeing other 18 year olds be so independent, successful, and having a social life only makes me feel bad for myself. Im aware people progress at their own rate but I feel bad that I'm not doing something about myself right now. I just wished I was acting my age but at the same time I also wished I couldve made the most to heal my inner child without worrying about the abrupt impending adulthood burden. Anyways sorry if this is too long, I dont use reddit regularly but I had nowhere else to ask about this.

2023.04.01 12:04 dg_713 Question: How do we know that we haven't collectively fallen into a trap of Motivated Reasoning?

For context: I just learned today about Motivated Reasoning where we dismiss facts and analysis that don't fit our desired conclusion, and only accept those that do. It's both a conscious and an unconscious process, and I haven't found much about making sure we don't fall into that.
I hope I don't get downvoted to oblivion with this one.
But I also have to be honest: I have a little regret not selling a single share in the Sneeze of January 2021, or in March 2021, or last June 2021, or last August 2022.
Whenever I see those huge numbers and I get some shares in the green, I always felt like it's going to keep on growing that way, only to be left deep in the red again once for months. Those peaks get lower and lower.
However, I keep on seeing how right the Cellar Box Basket Theory is, where popcorn, towel, headphones, and GME, all run together.
Another one is when the UBS exec really talked about the Credit Suisse swap, when this sub propositioned that long ago. But how I'm still unclear how those swaps actually connect with closing GME shorts.
Yet, for some reason, I can't help but feel that we missed something. I just want a sanity check, how sure are we that the upvote and downvote mechanism of each individual isn't resulting into a collective dismissal of evidence? How many times have we admitted and/or corrected our DD? How do we know that we are objective in our analysis, and not just twisting our interpretation of the facts towards our desired outcome of MOASS?
Please don't downvote me. I really just want to be sure I have not fallen under the trap of motivated reasoning.

2023.04.01 11:54 Tsonga87 Thames Water keep chasing bill

Hi all,
In July 2022 I noticed on my credit report that I had a missed payment for Thames water. I got in contact with Thames water to find out the details and it turns out that an account was opened with them from 24th May 2021 onwards and that a bill of ~£370 was opened. This was interesting as I had vacated the property in question on May 14th 2021.
With some back and forth, me provided council tax bill etc, the £370 balance was cleared and I believed all was well.
Low and behold, 3 months the credit score had not been updated and I received another bill stating that I still owed £10.02. I called, received the reassurances that this outstanding balance was to be removed and that the mark on my credit rating will be reversed (they once again asked for my council tax bill, for which I advised they look through the notes history and see the previously provided solution).
With no update on my credit score - rinse and repeat in Jan 2023 with a bill via email and another phone call to Thames water.
Rinse and repeat today - yet another bill through the door for an outstanding bill for 24th May - 25th May 2021 of £10.08.
I am currently on the phone to Thames water, but wondering what can I do from a legal standpoint? I have a pretty good credit score, but if I didn't, this payment might affect me getting credit elsewhere. I am thinking of getting a mortgage in 6 months and I honestly can't see this being resolved by then.
I am also just generally pissed that I seem to have made little progress in nine months and would quite like the matter resolved (an apology or compensation would be nice, but it is what it is).
All advice welcome.

2023.04.01 11:48 adoremerp I want to thank President Biden for his tireless work protecting the second amendment

Under Biden, the inflation-adjusted price of an NFA tax stamp has fallen 15%.
Under Biden, a major firearm dealer was released from prison, and is now able to practice his craft again as a free man.
Biden has overseen the development of a new 9mm round capable of blowing the lungs out of the body. I haven't seen this round on the shelves, but if anyone knows where to buy it, hmu.
President Biden has made $30 billion of dollars weapons and military equipment available to people seeking to defend their country.
A new Biden policy suggests up to 87,000 Americans will given guns, and encouraged to use deadly force, if necessary.
Frankly, I don't know why Biden gets so much hate on this subreddit. While all the "firearm safety" cucks are telling you to "be sure of your target and what is behind it", Based Biden and his two shotguns are ready to blast a home intruder through the door.

2023.04.01 11:19 thesouthwardwalk This sub saved me (copper coil)

Life has been tough lately. You all know. And it was getting worse. The fatigue that knocked me down, the mood swings that had me screaming at my kids, the increasing difficulty I had getting to sleep... I had to cut down on work. More and more visits to the doctor trying to get help. Even thinking about applying for disability.
I was browsing through the medications section on this sub, checking to see how well some of them were tolerated when I glanced at the stats on the Copper Coil. And my jaw dropped.
57%???? How could a non hormonal BC make 57% of PMDD sufferers symptoms worse. I went down the research rabbit hole and also called my doctors office asking for an appointment to get mine out ASAP.
Research seemed to say that I was suffering from mild copper toxicity (doesn't feel mild) but it was all a bit theoretical and not backed up by studies. If it was true though, taking zinc should help.
I took zinc. I went to bed. I woke up, I took more zinc. I felt great. I felt amazing! Better than I had in a year.
It lasted about half a day. Then my system ran out of zinc. I debated about taking more. Read up on the side effects. Tried to find a dose rate for use with the copper coil. No good. F it. Took more about 4pm that day. I wanted to feel alive again.
I took too much 😅 and late that night ended up on the toilet for an hour 🙃 Don't take too much zinc 🤣🤣🤣
I have been taking 20mg of zinc in the morning, and another 20mg in the afternoon for 3 days now and I feel like my life is returning. Right now im supposed to be in the middle of hell week. At the worst of my PMDD I was screaming and crying and breaking down and lying on the couch incapable of moving or interacting, let alone parenting, what a joke! In contrast, this week, I'm a bit snappy and still struggling with fatigue, but I'm mostly functional.
And I'm furious.
I was being freaking poisoned!!! And the medical establishment doesn't even accept that it is a possible side effect! (save in rare, specific circumstances). It honestly blows my mind.
2 and a half weeks till I get it out. Can't come fast enough.
Thanks to all you guys who worked to create this sub and maintain it. The work you do is literally life saving.

2023.04.01 11:17 infinitemuugen Pre-2023 Wise USD Account to Philippine Banks/GCash

Hi!
I'm new to freelancing and was recently hired through OLJ, so my employer is paying me through Payoneer as this was the platform recommended through OLJ.
I just received my first payment and noticed that Payoneer has a very low exchange rate (USD) and has a number of transaction fees.
I remembered using Wise early in 2022 and already had a USD account in the platform. My last transactions in the app went like this: Received payment in USD Account -> Transferred the USD to the Peso Account (Was automatically converted based on the exchange rate) -> Transferred to my Bank (GCash).
I read in the subreddit that some people can't open USD accounts anymore because apparently, Wise Pilipinas is the one handling the transactions here. I also read a comment stating na this new policy/terms is only applicable to accounts before 202x/3 as the accounts opened before that date will be under the Wise UK's terms and conditions, I looked at their support page and it states that "If you're in the Philippines, you can't open USD/ And Philippines has its own terms and conditions"
So my question is, is my USD account in Wise still good to be used despite these changes? My USD account is complete with ACH and Wire routing numbers. My employer would also pay less in fees when sending me my payments. Are there people in the same situation that can share their experiences?
Feel ko kasi ang bigat ng kaltas ng payoneer. I hope you guys can help. Thanks!

Letters of Recommendation
I waived my rights via FERPA so I’m just guessing here.
English Teacher (7/10): Had her for both junior and senior year, had a pretty good relationship with her in class and always did my work- nothing extraordinary. She's a good writer though, so I trust her letter!
Bio Teacher (6/10): TBH only really chose her because I thought you needed one STEM and one humanities rec for every school. She definitely saw my academic side (I pestered her a lot about my Bio IA...) but beyond that I'm not sure...
Counselor (7/10): Didn't really know counselor too well, but I filled out her worksheet pretty thoroughly. She also asked for some of my other teachers to give her insight, so I had my IB Music and my orchestra director give her more info about me from a different point of view. She has lots of experience writing letters so I'm sure she was able to put together a good letter from all of the info she got from me and other teachers.
Interviews
Georgetown (6/10): my first interview, it was in-person and in the interviewer's office. Needless to say, I was terrified and spent 5 minutes in my parent's car just doing last-minute rehearsing before actually getting out. It went OK- it was decent for a first interview, but I think I rambled a bit too much about my academic self and didn't really get into my personality/hobbies and what really made me, me. Interviewer's interests didn't really line up with mine beyond academics so thats what we naturally focused about. It was a solid hour, but very chill in the end (I shouldn't have been that stressed lol).
Princeton (7/10): Was much more prepared for this interview. It was virtual, and lasted like 40 minutes. She asked me a few questions- I think I was definitely able to express and articulate myself a lot better compared to my Georgetown one, but I'm afraid I was thrown a bit off guard about the "Why Princeton/major" question she asked me and so my answer for that wasn't as perfect. Otherwise, I spent the last like 10-15 minutes asking her about Princeton stuff. It was a standard interview.
Columbia/Sciences Po Dual Degree Program (9/10): this interview was definitely my best interview by far because I was hella stressed for it, so I researched as much as I could about it- I really demonstrated my interest in Asian politics through specific examples, and I was well-articulated about why I wanted to attend not one, but two prestigious schools in the span of 4 years (and like, why France specifically). The Sciences Po admissions officer was having some connectivity issues but besides that it was a very solid interview.
Franklin and Marshall (9/10): It was with a current, international student, and we basically bonded over wanting new experiences in college and like this idea of college in general. He said that I was one of his favorite interviewees so that was nice?? Got to ask him a lot about the school and I was very passionate in my answers, much more chill than Georgetown/Princeton ones (tbh those top-schools kinda psyched me out...)
Wesleyan (7/10): I can't really remember what went down in this one tbh. At this point senioritis was kicking in and everything was mostly a blur LMFAO.
Essays
My CommonApp essay was... probably not the best. Topic was kind of basic, and the writing was meh. Unfortunately, I didn't really have time to edit it, because I got super busy with MUN things in the fall + senioritis hit early... so I really tried to perfect my supps. It was still a solid essay overall and I liked it, but I wish I started brainstorming about it earlier so I could've found a more niche idea/used some of the ideas I had in my supps for this main essay. Definitely should've done my dream school applications (ie, Georgetown) last instead of first since I naturally got so much better over time. Don't underestimate how your writing ability can skyrocket in the span of 5 months!!
Decisions (indicate ED/EA/REA/SCEA/RD)
Acceptances:
Waitlists:
Rejections:
Additional Information:
This whole journey has definitely been a process. I came into the college app process thinking I had a solid chance at schools like Georgetown, Boston U, and Northeastern, with UPenn as a hard reach. I ended up not even applying to UPenn and getting rejected from Georgetown, BU, and NEU, but got some amazing acceptances that came really out of the blue (still reeling over WashU.... like I applied on a whim???).
I do really regret applying to all of the OOS public schools that I did- especially the UCs- since I can't afford OOS tuition, but I think overall my list was rather balanced. Seeing all of those reaches reject me stung (Georgetown sent me on an emotional rollercoaster and my heart dropped when I found out that BU had a 10% acceptance rate this year) but all it takes is one reach for there to be success! I'm most likely going to end up committing to Columbia/Science Po (top school in France AND in US??? Hell yeah!), but all in all I'm so glad that this process is finally over <3 going to take a long fucking nap.

2023.04.01 11:09 feelgoodvibesonly Running with PAWS

Long time lurker here. Just got past the one month mark for the umpteenth (and final) time. I took up running a decade ago, and find it very beneficial, but every time I cut out weed the effort feels so high, and my running heart rate gets ridiculous. While I’m using, my heart rate might be around 142bpm on a jog, when I quit, the same effort sees me at around 164bpm. Even a walk and my heart rate can now be in the 130s. I’m a fairly fit guy, with a sub 40 min 10k PB and a sub 90 min half PB, but I can’t actually ‘run’ at the moment as I don’t like to see my heart rate in the high 180s at 42 years old. I’m not injured or ill, just not high. My breathing can feel laboured, even sitting. I’m running a lot less too, down from around 50km per week to around 20km as I just can’t sustain my previous effort. I’m experiencing many PAWS symptoms, so trying to accept those without reading too much into them, as I’ve also had them on previous quit attempts, but I’d like to know, what did marijuana add to my body that made me a better runner, and what does the absence of it do to turn me into this achy, slow, shadow of my high self? How does its absence regulate my heart rate and breathing so much? I’ve looked online but I can’t seem to find much evidence… thanks for reading and keep up the great work. I’m sure our future selves will be grateful x

2023.04.01 10:54 sarajford10 I want to start a career abroad after 1 year of being a physician, where should I look for jobs?

Coming from Southeast Asia, I understand this adds extra struggle in finding jobs abroad since I will need a visa to work practically anywhere else in the world. I'm considering non-clinical roles in the healthcare field. I have been accepted to three universities in Europe for Master's in Healthcare Management, but I won't be able to study without a scholarship.
I have always been active in student organizations in leadership positions, did volunteer work all throughout med school, worked as research assistant for several research projects, became a teaching assistant for three years, and currently working as a physician. I graduated med school last year with distinction (April 2022). My TOEFL score is 111 out of 120, just a reference for my English skill.
Where should I look if I want to start looking for job openings abroad that will sponsor visa? If there are some recommended additional skills or certifications to be a better candidate, what should I learn?
I appreciate any advice, thank you!

2023.04.01 10:54 dixiecooks What can I do to get rid of extremely high CC debt?

Hello. Using buddy’s account for privacy.
TL;DR at bottom.
As the title says, I am in extremely large CC debt ($68,565.64 to be exact). How I got here? Very poor decisions and terrible habits. Took me a while to realize that and here we are. I've sold my car, currently trying to get a remote part time job to increase my take home money, and have been really trying to reduce spending. Looking for other ways to get out of this hell.
Other than paying it off month to month, what else can I do? I've tried to get a debt consolidation loan, but due to my credit score (640 due to high CC balance) the most I can get is $2,000 with 14% interest rate. Should I accept that? I've looked into certain types of loans where you get “up to $40k" in the next 24 hrs, which are supposed to be an easy approval, but I've been denied.
If I stay the course of paying the minimum and putting more into some every so often, it would take 5 years and I'll end up paying over $20k in interest, which is disgusting. Tried snowball method, but doesn't feel like it's helping, so l'm going w avalanche method of paying off (least amount of interest is better for me)
TL;DR: I have $68k in CC debt. Tried to get debt consolidation, but CC score is too low (due to CC balance) to get approved for large amount. Currently looking for a second job, but difficult. What else can I do?
Any help is welcomed. Thanks
